Running a PS4 game on PC: The DriveClub Recomp 0.2.3

Originally released in 2014 by Evolution Studios, Driveclub was the game that made me go out and buy a PlayStation 4. It’s one of the PS4’s most visually impressive racing games, with realistic weather effects, very etailed cars and amazing realistic environments. Driving difficulty can be set from accesible with driving aids to challenging. And the physics are well done.

ShadPS4 starts the game but there are graphical glitches making the game unplayable. This unofficial DriveClub Recomp 0.2.3 project brings this former PS4 to Windows PCs and makes it playable. It executes the original x86-64 game code natively while replacing PlayStation-specific system functions and translating graphics commands to Vulkan. The project offers higher resolutions, unlocked frame rates, ultrawide support and modern anti-aliasing technologies. It more or less transforms the original 1080p30 game into something that looks and plays like a well scaling native PC port.
It’s still experimental with it being 0.23 with occasional graphical glitches and no online functionality (the online servers got shut down quite some time ago). This recomp represents a significant development in preserving and modernizing one of Sony’s most distinctive racing titles.
