Trying Out Rage Racer PC 0.5-alpha (PC-port)

Trying out the native PC-port (Windows, Linux and MacOS ports are available). It uses the Rage Racer (PAL) European release that you need to rip to cue/bin for the game to be able to use the assets.
It’s based off a complete clean room decompilation.
It contains the port, platform packaging and the runtime compatibility layer. It is possible to edit the scenario that you can play by changing the race scenario. It’s also possible to let your car start at a certain position on the track.
This version has the analog controls on by default – which is a big improvement to the original which only worked with the default non analog Playstation gamepad unless you had a NeGcon controller. It’s possible to edit and shape the analog response.
It’s possible to use the Japanese release of the game but there are issues with the text messages on screen that stay blank. That’s because the Japanese release uses graphics to display the complete sentences instead of displaying text like the PAL release does. So apart from the text messages on screen (memory card prompts, car descriptions and NeGcon calibration instructions).
Excellent port and shows how 25+ year old games can still shine in a native modern port.
Thanks for watching, Mark
