Did you know that Pixar once took Nintendo and the creators of Grand Theft Auto to court over a sentient unicycle?

Back in 1994, DMA Design (now known as Rockstar North) developed a blazing-fast, 16-bit platform racer for the Super Nintendo called Uniracers (known as Unirally in PAL regions). Featuring innovative physics and roller-coaster tracks, it seemed like a surefire hit. But there was just one problem: Pixar—fresh off their early computer-animated shorts—felt the game’s animated unicycle looked and moved just a bit too much like Red from their 1987 short film Red’s Dream.

What followed was one of the strangest, most fascinating copyright battles in entertainment history, ultimately resulting in a court victory for Pixar, a cancelled Japanese release, and a rare collector’s item that remains trapped in legal limbo to this day.

Special thanks to @DeuteriumtheSentientMattress for co-editing today’s episode!

And yes, before you ask, I’m “That Guru Larry” that was on TV 😂
