Sega Race TV (Lindbergh Arcade)

An arcade racing game for the Sega Lindbergh arcade system board released on my dad’s birthday in 2008 (feb 19th) in Japan and on Independence Day in the US. A year later it came to Europe on March
13th which is an actual Friday the 13th.

Developer: Sega AM Plus
Publisher: Sega
Designer: Yu Suzuki
Genre: Single player Arcade racer

This racing game features 8 cars: Ford Mustang GT, Chevrolet Camaro
Concept, Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray, Mazda MX-5, Mitsubitshi Eclipse, RUF RK Roadster, Plymouth Prowler, Plymouth HEMI Cuda and a Mercury
Convertible.

All the cars can be customized and passwords are given to users who want
to access a specific customization they made.

After leaving Sega AM2 Yu Suzuki was only able to finish THIS game, his other two projects Shenmue Online & Psy-Phi were sadly never released. So Sega Race TV was Suzuki’s last game he made at Sega. After
that Suzuki created his own dev studio called YS.Net but retired soon after that.

Gameplay shows a live action car racing show with hilarious commentary – the Japanese commentary is quite hilarious even to non Japanese ears.
Nine playable characters are available to choose from: Daryl Hawnet, Jane
Kisaragi, Doug Buster, Rita de la Rosa, Enrico Estebeth, Maria Dhyne, Christopher Lockstone, Marguerite Miller and Jake Paterson – he’s the game’s host. Another character Mike Paterson (might be Jake’s brother) serves as a commentator.

There are 5 tracks to choose from and each course is fitted with tons of
onstacles, boost bonuses not unlike Mario Kart or F-Zero GX. There are single and multiplayer modes). The player competes in 3 races against the same opponents. Qualification is secured when finishing 3rd or less in the 1nd race and finishing at 1 or 2 in the 2nd race.

Apart from selecting the initial course the other courses are selected at random by the game itself. The multiplayer mode is pretty much
the same as the single player mode but only one race can be driven at a
time – so you have to take turns at the wheel.

As you might habve guessted I am quite a fan of the work of Yu Suzuki. There are many excellent Sega arcade games that he worked on.

Enjoy this rather badly driven race!
